Wine Composition
53% Shiraz, 28% Merlot, 9.5% Malbec, 9.5% Cabernet Sauvignon
Winemakers Comments
The Cape Roan is a lightly
oaked blend with Shiraz dominating, in the style of the Rhone
Valley. There is an abundance of dark plummy fruit and nuances of
smoky spiciness on the nose, which follow through on the
palate.

Situation of Vineyards
The different varietals in this classic Rhone blend were picked at
perfect phenolic ripeness.
Cellar Techniques
Cold soaking was done for 48 hours, improving wine color and
stability. Fermentation with yeast, specially isolated from
vineyards in the Rhone valley, added complexity to the final blend.
Three pump-overs per day were done followed by extended skin
contact, after fermentation. The wine was matured in 50% new French
Oak barrels for 12 months. Filtration and bottling took place in
October 2008.
