Winemakers Comments
Hiervandaan is a
blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre, Grenache, Carignan and Viognier. A
portion of the Shiraz is desiccated on the vine according to an
ancient method to intensify the color and add additional flavor
components. The Viognier component consists of skins only. The wine
is a dark color with intense flavors and dried orange peel aromas.
It is a rich tannic wine with great ageing
potential.

Norman McFarlane - Bolander
“…full of spice, engaging fruit and
restrained tannins…”
Michael Fridjhon - Business Day
“Often there
are surprising treasures lurking in the proprietary-named wines of
the more thoughtful and adventurous winemakers …a wine showing
quite developed character – but which then evolves and amplifies in
the glass.”
Neil Pendock - Good Taste
"One of my favourite red blends."
Angela Lloyd - John Platter South African Wine Guide 2008
"Hiervandaan 2006:characterful, comfortable
southern Rhone style. 06 mimics spice & mineral

Techniques
Only the skins of
the Viognier were used. These were fermented till dry and left in
the tank for three weeks. Pressed directly after fermentation.
Regular stirring of the lees imparted complexity to the wine and
protected it from premature ageing.
Wood Maturation for 13 months in mostly new French oak from the
forests of Allier.

Solms-Delta is so
much more than a wine estate. A trust was established that benefits
the estate’s historically disadvantaged residents and employees.
Then they were given an equal (one third) equity stake in the
winery. From the profits, the farm residents enjoy new, refurbished
and comfortable homes, and social programs that have greatly
improved their health, education and general quality of
life.
