Wine Composition
100% Montepulciano
Winemakers Comments
The cold soak to enhance the dark colour and intense flavours progressed to a nat-ural spontaneous fermentation of about three weeks followed by a week of skin maceration. After gentle pressing the wine was transferred into French oak bar-riques and puncheons (30% new) to mature for 30 months on its fine lees. Bottled without fining or filtration to retain the beautiful aromas.
Tasting Notes
Warning - not for the faint hearted! A heady nose, displaying aromas and flavours of dark cherries, blackberries and luscious juicy plums, underpinned by dark choco-late and chilli. A vibrant powerhouse enveloped by soft tannins and mouth watering acidity, seductive and elegant. Made for the ages.

Winemakers Notes
Marlborough basked under blue skies throughout summer and experienced wonder-fully warm weather after a cooler than average start. The long warm ripening sea-son ended in a beautiful Indian summer. No cost and time was spare for our mighty Montepulciano. For an even ripeness throughout the bunches, we cut ‘the shoul-ders’ off after veraison. It is the last variety to pick late in April at extremely low yields of 500g per vine to achieve this essence.
