Winemakers Comments
The wonderful dark purple color of this wine is a tastebud sensation! Sweet and savory like a 'Black Forest Gateau' in a bottle! Wonderful aromas of dark chocolate, juicy ripe plums, sweet Damson plums and prunes with spicy undertones. There is a hint of black pepper, tobacco, Mediterranean herbs and liquorice. A flavor powerhouse and a highly complex wine with a great lively acidity, structure, soft tannins and a lingering finish. This is a wine built to last....

Cellar and Vinification
Hand-picked the exuberant Austrian grape variety (crossing of 'Blaufränkisch x St.Laurent') at a low yield of 700g/vine mid of April. A fantastic long warm growing season greatly enhanced the flavors.
Winery
Hans Herzog Estate is one of New Zealand’s most treasured, truly artisan wineries, and Hans Herzog one of its most respected winemakers with more than 40 vintages of winegrowing under his belt.
Settled in 1994 in the heart of Marlborough within the most beautiful Mediterranean gardens, Herzog’s offers casual luxury and indulgence for wine and food lovers.
*Hans Herzog has recently taken a more sustainable approach to their packaging and has removed the capsules from their bottles. As organic producers, they felt a little bit hypocritical using tin capsules, therefore made the decision to have them removed.
