Hemel en Aarde’ (‘Heaven on earth’) close proximity to the coast means that this area enjoys a distinctly maritime climate with cooling breezes and lower summer temperatures. The soils in the region are largely Bokkeveld shale with high clay content like Cote d’Or in Burgundy. So the production of elegant, cool-climate Burgundian-style wines are a particular specialty of the region.
