Winemakers Comments
Yellow gold color, this wine has an explosive bouquet of lime, apple, hazelnut and peach with notes of vanilla spice, crushed oyster shell and butterscotch. The palate is textured and vibrant. A weighted entry comes quickly to life with ripe apricot, peach and pear flavors complimented by richer more spicy savory fruit. This follows into a lingering sweet-sour aftertaste with a light phenolic grip. A thin line of salty acidity gives the wine a succulent finish. Drink 2022-2032

Vintage
The 2020 vintage started with a moderate Winter with good rainfall. We had a wet Spring which prompted the vines to grow strongly and develop a decent size crop. The early season was marked by fairly erratic temperatures and several heat spikes. These factors made farming quite tough with increased pressure from disease and insects. The vineyard team worked hard to prepare a good-looking crop. Mid-Summer temperatures were fairly moderate although we did experience a short heat wave in January. This was followed by 48 hours of gale force South Easter which hammered the vineyards and the ripening grapes. Fortunately, the wind came late in the season and only led to a concentration of the grapes. The grapes ripened quickly after that and by 10 March we had picked most of the 100-ton crop off our vineyards. The end of the vintage was marked by the first full lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic and the farm was all but deserted except for those lucky enough to live there.

Keermont Vineyards is blessed with some very special and unique vineyard sites. The farm is situated high up in the picturesque Blaauwklippen Valley, otherwise known as Paradyskloof (Paradise Valley). The Blaauwklippen River, which bisects the farm, is also the boundary between the Helderberg and the Stellenbosch Mountain Range. This means that some of the vineyards are on the warmer north-facing Helderberg slopes and others on the cooler west-facing Stellenbosch range. Due to the steepness of the terrain, the altitude climbs 200m within the 1.7km length of the farm and the vineyards are planted between 250m and 400m above sea level. Thus the vines planted over these different terrains produce wines with good complexity and a variety of flavors. In addition, just over the Helderberg mountains, False Bay and the Atlantic Ocean are just 12.5km from the farm, which also contributes to the microclimate on the farm.
Aiming to create wines that reflect the beautiful place from which they come and the different blocks from which the grapes are picked. For this reason, they try to use less chemical fertilisers, fewer pesticides and to irrigate as little as possible. They hope to achieve natural, well-balanced vineyards and ultimately yield better quality wines. Only grapes grown on Keermont Vineyards are used in the production of their wine.
