Upon hearing the word Malbec, we think of Argentina and great steaks. The grape has become synonymous with the South American country having 75% of the world's plantings albeit originating in France. One of the blending components in right bank Bordeaux, it tends to show leathery, dark fruit, plum characters with a savoury smoky finish and a tell-tale magenta edge. As Malbec ranges from cool to warmer climates the Argentine style is more blackberry, plum, and black cherry. Being naturally high in tannin, oaking lends nuanced flavors of cocoa powder, violet flowers, leather with a sweet tobacco finish, perfect as a food partner.
