Winemakers Comments
The 2022 Pinque has classic strawberries and cream characters along with watermelon and a touch of Szechuan pepper. The 2022 vintage was warm and dry and correspondingly this wine is relatively low in acid making for a very smashable wine, although like all our wines there is plenty of subtle complexity to delight the taster.

Cellar Techniques
Pinque Rosé is harvested from selected coastal vineyards on Waiheke and Ponui Islands. These steep low yielding dry farmed vines produce grapes that are wonderfully ripe in flavor at relatively low sugar resulting in a fruit driven light bodied wine. The fruit is all hand harvested and ‘champagne’ pressed for a long press cycle aimed at producing the lightest freshest juice with the least amount of tannin as possible. The juice is settled and racked clean for cool fermentation with selected yeasts and then filtered and bottled in the winter.

The Man O’ War story begins with a special piece of land rich in history. Located at the eastern end of Waiheke Island, Man O’ War is a stunning array of coastal hillsides with high cliffs and pristine beaches forming a ruggedly beautiful coastline.
It was along this coastline that Captain James Cook came to anchor during his first voyage around the islands of New Zealand in 1769. Upon sighting the ancient stands of magnificent Kauri trees ashore, Cook noted in his journals that they would make ideal masts for the Man O’ War warships of the Royal Navy. Thus the name Man O’ War was bestowed upon this unique land.
