Rudi Schultz has been the winemaker at Thelema for fifteen years, he was considered as One of South Africa's outstanding young talents in winemaking. He was bitten by the wine bug early on. As a crew member on a sailboat that sailed from South Africa through the Caribbean to North Carolina, he was fortunate enough to try some top wines from the Rhone, because the boat’s owner was a collector of Chateauneuf-du-Papes. After returning to South Africa he completed winemaking studies at Elsenburg College and followed that up with valuable work experience at Sonoma-Cutrer in the mid-1990s. The wine, made and reared in Thelema's cellars, is packed with deeply intense fruit and spice character heavily reminiscent of Southern Rhone and has already won wide acclaim both internationally and nationally, tipped as the Cape's great single varietal wine by highly respected South African wine journalist John Platter.
