Winemakers Comments
Crimson red. Gentle floral aromas of violets and jasmine are backed by hints of fresh leather and tobacco leaf, mulberries and forest floor. The palate replicates the nose with earthy flavours brought forward by dark fruits which include blueberries and blackcurrant, all integrating well to create a lengthy finish with soft velvety tannins.

Vintage
Early bud break and arid conditions in the months following resulted in irrigation management being used. This led to a short and challenging harvest. Harvest volume was average, up by 0.8%. The 2015 vintage is well structured with a lighter body and linear fruit expression with malolactic fermentation in barrel and
18 months in 100% French oak with a medium toast.

Winery
For 315 years Rust en Vrede has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. The company and the estate are now headed up by Jean Engelbrecht and their family has specialized in producing only red wine with the focus on Shiraz, Cabernet, and Merlot. The underground cellar of the estate was the first of its kind for a privately owned South African winery. Designed by renowned architect Mr. Gawie Fagan, the perfectly temperature controlled environment is of invaluable benefit to the production and bottle maturation of unique wines.
Rust en Vrede is a remarkable example of exquisite landscaping. At home and abroad, this unassuming Stellenbosch Estate has made a name for itself far beyond its modest, but infinitely charming, 55 hectares.
