Surrounded by majestic mountains, the wine-producing area of Wellington is located 40 miles from Cape Town, and its soil is dry and alluvial, perfect for wine production. The climate is very warm and dry during the day and colder air from the mountains settles in the valleys in the evenings, helping to create a diurnal temperature variation. As a result - grapes ripen slowly and are able to develop more concentrated flavors while retaining acidity. Wellington produces excellent examples of Pinotage and Chenin Blanc.
